Sophie's 4th Birthday

My baby girl turned 4 years old!  I can't believe how big she is getting.

Sophie's birthday started by her waking up to all her balloons and decorations.  She thought that was really special.  Then I took her to Duncan Donuts to pick out some donuts for her birthday breakfast.

This year Sophie really wanted to have a "How to Train Your Dragon" birthday party.  One of her friends invited her to a "Frozen" birthday party a few months ago and she was set on having a party ever since.  Unfortunately her friend's mom is awesome and went all out with her daughter's party.  So I was worried Sophie would have really high expectations.  I wasn't even sure I wanted to throw her a party because she didn't need presents from all her friends, and I wasn't feeling very motivated while being sick and pregnant.

But a few days before her birthday I decided I didn't want to disapoint her and threw together a little party.  The kids made dragon masks and dragons on a stick.  Isaac made a cool obsticle course in the backyard that the kids could race their dragons through.  And I made some dragon cupcakes.  The party was scheduled to last 2 hours, and those things kept the kids busy for 1.5 hours.  So the last 30 mins I let them watch some of the short "How to Train Your Dragon" episodes.

After the party Aspen took a nap and Sophie was in her room having quiet time.  When I went to check on her, this is what I found.  My big 4 year old asleep in the baby bathtub.  Silly girl.

When Isaac came home from work we took Sophie to "Build A Bear Workshop" so she could get a stuffed Toothless Dragon.  We really thought she would love this.  She was supposed to pick out an animal, then help stuff it and add a heart.  Then she could give it a bath and pick out some clothes for it.  Unfortunately one of the workers welcomed us when we walked in and spoke to Sophie (Ahhh!), so she got all shy and refused to participate for quite a while.  After Toothless was stuffed and those darn friendly employees left her alone, Sophie was able to have some fun.  But she didn't want any clothes for him because "dragons don't wear clothes".  So although it wasn't the amazing experience we were hoping for, I think Sophie enjoyed it in the end.  And she loves her Toothless Dragon.

Then family members came over for cake and ice-cream.  Sophie was able to open more presents.  Aspen loved the presents and tried to steal them all as soon as Sophie opened them.  We are so grateful for all the grandparents and their generosity with our girls.

Sophie is such a sweet, smart, tender-hearted, and thoughtful little girl.  I don't know how we got so blessed to have a daughter like her.  She is so amazing and kind.  She is constantly telling us how much she loves us and giving hugs.

She loves to draw pictures and is becoming quite the little artist.  She writes "To: Mom From: Sophie I LOVE YOU" on almost every picture.  She loves crafts of every kind and often stresses me out by constantly asking for markers, glue, sequins, paint, etc.

She is doing a great job learning to read.  I think she is one of the only kids in her preschool class who started the reading program as a 3 year old.  She is super smart and can count to 100 and is learning basic addition.

Sophie is a great big sister and helps a lot with Aspen.  They are starting to play together really well.  Aspen will frequently steal toys or pull hair and Sophie never fights back.  We have been trying to teach her to defend herself more.

Sophie loves to watch tv and is a bit of a homebody.  But once we get her out of the house, she always has a lot of fun.

She loves to play with her friends and people at church say all the kids in her Sunbeam class fight over who gets to sit by Sophie.

We love our sweet girls so much and are so blessed to be her parents.
