On Sunday Aspen turned 2 1/2 years old. In some ways it seems like the time has flown by, but in other ways it has been a really long time. The most common word people use to describe Aspen is "crazy". She is one silly girl. Aspen's personality has really been coming out more in recent months. She is progressing from crying and whining to becoming a tease with a strong sense of humor.
Aspen is becoming really playful and a huge tease. You can see the mischief in her eyes. She is always doing and saying funny things to get a reaction. Recently Isaac started calling her a silly bean. She would say, "I'm not a silly bean, you're a silly bean" with major attitude. But that progressed into everything we would say to her..."I'm not cute, you're cute".
Aspen definitely has an attitude and can be little Miss Sassy Pants. But for the most part this is hilarious. Sure, there are times where it's really frustrating, but for the most part I just roll my eyes and laugh at her when she is being bossy. She frequently tells her baby dolls (and Sophie) to go to time out.
Aspen has a strange combination of being really girly on one hand, and a complete tom-boy on the other hand. She absolutely loves baby dolls. In nursery every week she hords all the dolls and is frequently carrying around 3-4 dolls. The leaders say that if another kid is playing with a doll that she will watch them until they set it down and rush over to steal it. She also loves wearing my high heels and carrying around my old purse. She love dressing as a princess. But she is also super tough. She can be a bit of a bully and still frequently attacks Sophie by pulling her hair and biting her. She can climb anything and is quite fearless. And she doesn't care at all what her hair looks like. I battle her everyday to let me do something with it, but she just lets it fall in her eyes.
Aspen sure loves her Mama. She still has to be sitting on me or touching me most of the time. That might sound cute, but she also never stops moving. So the whole time she is "sitting" on me, she's really bouncing on my giant belly. But it is nice to be needed.
She is getting really good at playing with Sophie. Normally Sophie innitiates some sort of imaginary scenario, but Aspen can fit right in and they are becoming great friends.
Aspen wakes up really early in the morning, usually by 6:30. We bring her into bed with us hoping she will fall asleep. Sometimes she falls back asleep, but frequently she gets bored and then "poke Mama eye".
Aspen talks really well and uses good sentence structure compared to other kids her age. But she still doesn't know her colors (except maybe orange). She can count most of the way to 20, but doesn't comprehend what counting is all about. She can sing the ABC song, but she can't identify any letters. She really shows no interest whatsoever in academic things.
She loves to sing. She has a really deep and somewhat scratchy voice, but I love hearing her sing. It is the cutest thing.
It has been a lot of fun watching Aspen grow an blossom into a hilarious little girl. She still has her moments and can be difficult, but for the most part she is entertaining and fun to watch. She has more energy than I know what to do with (being 9 months pregnant doesn't help). But we love our litte Aspen so much. She is such an important part of our family and brings us all together in a unique way. We are excited/terrified to see how she handles being a big sister in the next few days.
