Girl's Camp

Aug. 4-7, 2015

This summer I was able to go up to girl's camp for a few days.  I wasn't up there the entire time because I didn't want to be away from Sophie and Aspen for that long.  But it was good to spend some of the time with the young women.

Before camp I kept asking if I could sleep in my own tent.  The other leaders would laugh and blow me off.  Finally I demanded an answer and they were shocked that I was serious.  They couldn't believe I would't be scared or worried about being eaten by a bear.  I couldn't believe they were really concerned about being eaten by a bear.  But in the end I was able to have my own tent.  Hooray.

Girl's camp was fun.  The girls had to build boats out of cardboard boxes and duct tape and paddle them around a lake.  They went canoeing and zip-lining.  And we had craft projects to work on.  The stake leaders were in charge of really long and boring devotionals every morning and evening.  But the ward stuff we did was fun.

I was in charge of teaching the edible plant certification.  So I brought some chocolate covered raisins and dusted them with cocoa powder and planted them along the side of the trail as deer poop.  Then we went for a nature hike with a flower book to look things up.  I informed one of the other leaders what I was doing, so when I got to the poop I bent over and picked one up.  I said, "it looks like deer poop, but there's only one way to be sure.  You have to eat it".  Then I ate it and offered one to the other leader.  The girls were totally freaking out and one girl was yelling "no Mom, no, don't eat it".  They were so grossed out--it was great!  Then we let them in on the joke because they had to teach the certification to the younger girls.  They pulled the same prank and the younger girls were freaking out just as much.  I thought that was the highlight of the trip.
