Bear Lake

July 1-3, 2015

Isaac and I had a hard time deciding what to do for our family vacation this year because I am pregnant.  But we have a group of friends who go to Bear Lake every summer and talk about how much they like it, so we decided to check it out.

We drove up past Logan and stopped in the canyon for lunch and to let the girls out of the car for a while.  They had a lot of fun going for a short walk and having a picnic.  Then we finished the drive to Bear Lake.

We rented a little condo with a separate living area, kitchen, and bedroom.  We have found that this is soooo necessary with little kids.  They go to bed so early that Isaac and I need somewhere to watch tv until it's time for us to go to bed too.  And it was really nice to have a place to cook and eat meals.  The condo also had an outdoor pool the kids could swim in.

As soon as we got to Bear Lake we drove around until we found a little beach.  There were more designated beaches, but we found an area off the side of the main road where lots of people were playing in the water.  It turned out to be a great spot.  The water was really shallow for about 100 ft, so Sophie and Aspen were able to walk out really far without worrying about dropping off into deeper water.  Also because it was so shallow the water was quite warm.  I always heard people talk about how cold Bear Lake is, but when it was only 1 foot deep it wasn't bad at all.

After playing in the water, we stopped to get a famous raspberry shake on our way back to the condo.  (We actually ended up getting shakes every day we were there and the girls loved it.)

We also decided that we didn't have very good water toys for the kids, so we found some cheap blow-up mattresses and donuts for them to play with the next few days.  Basically we spent the whole vacation relaxing at the beach, building sandcastles and playing in the water, eating shakes, going for walks, and enjoying time together.  It was a more relaxed vacation than we typically have, but was really nice (especially because I wasn't feeling great being pregnant).  It was the perfect vacation spot for little kids like ours, and it gave Sophie lots of confidence with her "swimming".
