Skiing

This winter has had NO snow.  Around Thanksgiving the ski resorts tried to open, but had to shut back down because they had no snow.  Right before Christmas most resorts were offering majorly discounted tickets because there was no snow.  Isaac had been wanting to go skiing and the discount tickets were so tempting.  He almost bought some for Sundance, because we'd never been there before.  But then he saw that they only had a 7 inch base of snow.  So he bought some tickets to Brighton hoping that it would snow by the time we needed to use them.

We went on a Tuesday and my cabin happened to be available.  So my parents came up to the cabin to help watch the kids.  We stayed overnight the night before and the kids had fun being up there.

On Tuesday we started with Aspen and Sophie on the bunny hill.  I couldn't believe how much better Aspen did this year!  Last year when we tried to take her skiing it was a total disaster.  I had her hang on to my poles and she skiied right next to me.  She was able to stand and control herself so much better.  I swear the year before she didn't even support her own body weight at all.

Sophie also did great.  She was skiing all by herself by the 2nd run.  I also had her play follow the leader to make sure she knew how to turn deliberately.

After about 8 runs, Aspen was cold and tired so my dad took her back to the cabin and we took Sophie on a bigger hill.  She did a run down Majestic and did great.  We tried to get back on the Majestic lift, but we accidentally got on Crest Express instead.  We didn't realize it until we were on the lift, so we were a little nervous about her going down the bigger hills.  But we found a fairly easy way down and she rocked it.  It was so much fun to see her skiing on real runs.

Then we went back to the cabin for lunch and the kids stayed with the grandparents while Isaac and I did a few runs by ourselves.  It was a lot of fun.  Even though the snow wasn't great, it didn't have rocks poking through everywhere like I was worried about.  It will be nice when we can afford to go skiing more than once a year.
