Our New House

We finally moved!  On October 14th we closed on our new home.  It was a long process, but we are so pleased with the final product.  The last few months of building were quite frustrating.  The house was basically done, but the streetlamp was still in the middle of where the driveway was supposed to be and the city was giving the builder's grief about moving it.  Then there was drama about when we could actually close, but our lender was great and got things done in a rush.

Some people really don't like building, but I think it was perfect for us.  We love the location and the view of the mountains.  We love our new neighborhood and being close to the Jordan River Parkway.  There are tons of kids around here, so I think our kids will have lots of friends as they get older.  And we love the house.  As you pick things you wonder whether it will look good once everything is put together.  Will the counters match the cabinets and floors?  Will the paint colors look good?  Etc.  And we have loved everything about the way things came together.

Here's the front of the house:

This is the formal living room/future music room if our kids ever play an instrument:

This is the play room/future formal dining room:

This is the family room:  I love the high windows and the view of the mountains.

This is the kitchen:  I love the island and how much space I have.

This is the mud room:  I love having a place to put coats and backpacks when we come in.

These are the two bathrooms on the main floor:  I love how all the bathrooms are different, but still tie together.

This is the master bedroom and bathroom:  I really like the ceiling.

This is Luke's room:

This is Aspen's room:  I found a really cool painting of aspen trees that I had to get for her room.

This is Sophie's room:

This is the laundry room:  I love the wood tile on the herringbone.  If I would have done white cabinets in the kitchen, I would have done this floor everywhere.

This is the secret reading room:  We really wanted a room with a hidden bookshelf.  The kids think it's awesome.

A bunch of our friends who build had huge lists of things they wish they would have done differently.  But we've lived here for almost 4 months and are still so pleased with how it all came together.

Now we are trying to figure out what and how to do the yard...
