Since we were in the middle of a move--packing our old house and moving 2 weeks before Halloween--I was worried I wouldn't finish their costumes in time. I finished Sophie's costume first because she had a Halloween parade first. Then I finished Aspen's for her preschool party. And I finished Luke's costume at 5:59pm on the evening our ward Halloween party was supposed to start at 6:00pm. Ha ha, that was close.
I also hosted my annual Halloween party at our new house. It was so great to have more room to fit everyone. Our kids were dragons, I was a court jester, and Isaac was a baked potato (I mean dragon egg). Isaac stayed up forever the night before working on his costume. He used some cardboard boxes and toilet paper to make an egg costume. But it was too flimsy, so the next morning he got up and wrapped the whole thing in foil. I spray painted it gold for him while he was at work. But at the party everyone thought he was a baked potato.
My parents were pirates.
Jamie and Johny were cartoons from "Recess".
Lacey and her family were characters from Moana.
Afton was a mummy, Heber was a skeleton, and Jarem was a zombie.
Barry and Karla were Doc and the Evil Queen from Snow White.
And Hannah was Scooby Doo. The party was a lot of fun.
I also helped at Sophie's class party.
I love how Sophie's facepaint turned out. The nostrils really make her look awesome and creepy.
Luke wasn't happy about the paint.
Aspen had 2 kinds of face paint. One was not as scary for her preschool party. But I made her a cool creepy one with nostrils for Halloween night.
On Halloween night we went trick-or-treating around our new neighborhood. We left a bowl of candy on our porch, but there were sooooo many kids there was no way it was going to be enough. Next year I'm going to have to buy 4 times as much candy. Shortly before we moved in the ward was split and our house is right on the dividing line between wards. So Halloween was the first time we really saw how many kids are in the whole neighborhood. It was crazy. But it is so nice to be in a neighborhood with so many kids and lots of community involvement.
Luke was such a trooper trick-or-treating. He ran to every house and climbed the steps and would say "MORE CANDY" instead of "Trick-or-Treat". If he wasn't such a tiny kid who could barely talk, he would have been rude, but it was hilarious. Then he would run down the steps and demand we open the candy for him to eat before he would run to the next house yelling "MORE CANDY! CANDY! CANDY! CANDY!"
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I love seeing the kid's excitement as they dress up and run around.
