Aspen is 4 1/2

A little over a month ago Aspen turned 4 1/2 years old!  Aspen has grown up so much recently.  She is really becoming such a smart and helpful little girl.  She used to cry and whine a lot, but now she's so much happier.  She is really good at talking about things she wants and needs.  Here are some things about Aspen:

  • Aspen is such a good big sister.  Since Sophie is gone to school all day, Aspen plays with Luke.  She is really good about getting him to play princess Barbies or My Little Pony with her.  Of course they can still fight, and frequently do when Aspen steals Luke's toy.  But for the most part they play together all day.
  • Aspen loves to play pretend.  She often will be by herself in a room with some of her toys and just jabbering non-stop about whatever she's imagining.  Usually it involves lots of "my parents are dead", "I'm sorry to bother you, but...", and other funny things.
  • She is getting really good at drawing and writing her name and other words.
  • Aspen has started reading.  I've been a lazy mom and haven't worked with her as much as I should have.  But she came home from school and told me she's been reading the "I am Sam" books.  So we went to the library and got some, and she is reading great.
  • Aspen used to love going outside, but now she's become a bit of a home-body.  It takes a lot of persuasion to get her to play outside (although it is cold because it's winter).
  • Aspen loves to look pretty.  She likes wearing her church dresses, picking out matching clothes, painting her nails, and having her hair done every day.  She always says that Sophie has "boring hair" because she only likes it straight.  Every morning she tells me she wants certain clips or elastics in her hair "like this" as she wiggles her hands around her head.  It takes a lot of detective work to figure out what she's envisioning, but she's come up with some cool ones.  She always says she likes "fashion".
  • Aspen loves preschool.  She says she wishes she could go every day.
  • Aspen loves to cook and is a great helper in the kitchen.
  • She still naps occasionally, but usually she falls asleep cuddling with me or while we are reading a book.

We love Aspen and she has been such a good girl.  I can't believe how far she has come, and continue to enjoy watching her learn and grow.
