I'm still so far behind, so here are some of the other things we've been up to:
Jamie's Wedding:
Jamie got married! Jamie had been dating Steve for a while now. Steve wanted to get married for a long time, but they waited a while. When Steve was going to propose, Jamie told him that she just wanted him to surprise her. So I told Steve that I could help by getting her anywhere he wanted. So Steve came up with a plan to propose by the Draper temple. I talked to my kids about what we were doing and that it had to be a surprise. I invited Jamie over to help me make a cake. When Steve was set up, he texted me to bring her over. So I lied about having to deliver homework to a sick girl in Sophie's class. We all loaded in the car and drove away. Luke instantly said, "Jamie, we have your ring" because Steve gave us a ring pop with a poem to give her. I tried to blow him off. But then Sophie started embellishing her "story" about the sick girl in her class. I was worried things were getting out of control because as we were driving to Draper Jamie said something like "This girl lives a long way from your school". But we were able to deliver her to the location without her suspecting anything. We pulled into a parking lot and kicked her out of the car with the box and clue. She was surprised. She didn't have a coat, so I gave her mine and off she went.
Then COVID happened and ruined all her wedding plans. Temples were shut down, so she was worried she wouldn't be able to be sealed. They planned a civil ceremony in Steve's parent's backyard. But a few days before the wedding, temples opened again for live ordinances, but you could only have 8 people. So they changed their plans again and I was able to see her sealing with my parents. It was super weird to be in a temple with only 8 people. But they had a really special experience. Then they had a ring ceremony at Steve's parent's house. I helped my mom a little with decorations and setting up. I think it turned out really nice. It wasn't at all what they were expecting, and was really hard and frustrating for them, but I think in the end it was a great day.
Hiking:
COVID has killed everything. Lots of businesses are still shut down, so people can't do normal things like go shopping or to the movies. Lots of supplies, food, cleaning, gardening, etc. are gone. Exercise equipment is impossible to find. The world is out of weights and bikes. We tried to find a new bike for Sophie's birthday and it was super hard. Isaac started calling all the bike shops and they guy told him they can't keep anything on the floor. Yard and gardening supplies are gone. Isaac wanted to start bee keeping at the cabin and all the local shops were sold out of bee boxes. So in lots of ways this has been good because more people are exercising, biking, and doing yard work than ever before.
Since there are limited things we can do these days, we have gone hiking quite a few times. But the trails are so crowded. Every time we have barely been able to find a place to park. The whole world has started hiking.
But we hiked to Steward Falls. It is by Aspen Grove near Sundance. It was about a 3 mile hike. The kids were tired when we finished, but they did great considering we hadn't hiked for a while.
We stopped for lunch and shakes on the way home from one hike.
The Jamie and Steve invited us to hike Scout Falls with them. It is up near Timpanogus Cave. It was also about a 3 mile hike. The kids did great. And it's nice to get up in the mountains where it's not so crazy hot.
Father's Day:
For Father's Day we got Isaac a pair on flippers and snorkel set. He looks funny in these pictures. Haha.
15 Year Anniversary:
Isaac and I thought we might do something special for our 15 year anniversary, but with a nursing baby, and things shut down from the virus, we decided to take the family to Lagoon. We bought the "Get Out Pass" again last Thanksgiving, which includes a day at Lagoon. We haven't gotten much use out of the pass with things being shut down, but Lagoon finally opened for reservations and all guests had to wear masks. So we took the kids and went on our anniversary.
As soon as we got there, Sophie wanted to try "Cannibal" with me. We got in line and quickly made it to the front. I kept asking her if she was ok and was sure she wanted to do this. She kept saying yes. But then they buckled us in the roller coaster chairs and she started bawling. I felt bad, but there was nothing I could do at that point. So I held her hand and tried to comfort her the best I could. She did great. I know she was terrified, but she did it! When we got off the ride, I asked her if she wanted to go again and she said no. But then as we were trying to find Isaac and the other kids I was talking to her about how she is braver than daddy and should take him on it. So then she got brave and actually convinced Isaac and Aspen to go on Cannibal with her again. And Isaac did! It was a miracle.
Hazel didn't go on any rides, except the train. We thought about putting her in a few, but didn't want her trying to suck on everything. And Luke went on almost all the rides in the kiddie land. He wanted to go on some of the bigger ones, but he isn't tall enough yet.
One of the last rides we were going to do was Colossus. I stayed off with Luke and Hazel while Isaac took Sophie and Aspen. As their car got to the top of the track, the whole thing froze. Workers went up and tried to fix it, but after a while they started uploading all the cars. I was worried about them cooking in the sun up there. It took about 45 minutes to get them down. Hazel and Luke were getting so restless. But they gave us some free meal cards, so we grabbed some dinner and stayed for a few more rides. Except for the Colossus incident, we had a really good day.
