Hazel is 11 Months

In July, Hazel turned 11 months old.  I can't believe it's been almost one year since she was born.  In some ways it's gone by so quickly, but in others it seems like she's been here much longer than 11 months.  Here are some things about sweet baby Hazel:

(These pictures are so hard to take.  Hazel only sits in the circle for a nanosecond.  She is constantly trying to pull the frame off the #.  And she wiggles non-stop, so most of my shots turn out blurry.  She has blurry hands and feet, but her smile is cute.  It was the best we got this time.)

  • Hazel started sleeping well again.  She still squawks once or twice a night, but we just have to get up and put her blanket back on and she will go back to sleep.  But she often wakes up around 6am and comes to cuddle in bed with me.  She almost always falls back to sleep with me, so I don't mind too much.
  • Hazel is showing no signs of walking.  She cruises along furniture, but doesn't like finger walking very much.  She will do it for a minute or two and then completely refuse.
  • She has pretty much completely given up baby food.  I still try to feed her cereal for breakfast and right before bed if she didn't eat much for dinner.  But she hates it.  I've never seen a baby who hated baby food as much as Hazel.
  • Hazel LOVES dogs.  Her best friends are Harlo and Boston.  When we ask if she wants to go see a dog she says, "Da!" and then kind of makes a barking sound.  I think "Da" for dog is her first word that she uses repetitively with meaning.  She gets so excited every time she sees a dog and starts shrieking in a high pitched squeal.
  • Hazel loves marshmallows.  She snarfs those things by the fist-full.  I'm worried she has such a sweet tooth.  She pretty much lives on fruit and sweet things.  She isn't a fan of meat or vegetables.
  • She is at such a hard stage to take outside.  She is constantly trying to eat rocks, wood chips, sticks, etc.  I used to try and get them out of her mouth, but as the 4th child I have given up.  She isn't going to swallow them, so if I pull one out, she will just put another one in.
  • Hazel has finally gotten to the point where I can just set her down in her crib for a nap and she will go to sleep by herself!  Hooray!  One time she was so tired she crawled up the stairs to her room, grabbed her blanket and just fell asleep on the floor.  Poor girl.
  • She has been a little grumpier and more clingy lately.  I wonder if she has some molars coming in.  She has had 8 front teeth for a long time, so she could be getting her 1 year molars.

Hazel is such a wonderful girl.  I still feel guilty that she is the 4th child and is always surrounded by chaos and noise, but I guess she doesn't know life any other way.  Most days I feel spread so thin by taking care of 4 kids who always need something that I don't feel that I give any of them the individual attention they deserve.  But Hazel also has 3 siblings to watch out for her and play with her, so I hope that helps compensate a little.  But I do love my little girl.  Her smile still makes her eyes sparkle and she's starting to get a mischievous little grin when she knows she's getting into something she shouldn't.  She's definitely becoming more adventurous and keeps us on our toes.
