Sophie is 5 1/2 Years Old

In January Sophie turned 5 1/2 years old.  She's getting so big.  Here are a few things about my Sophie Girl:
  • Sophie is super smart.  The other day Isaac decided to teach her about negative numbers.  He explained it for about 2 minutes and then started asking her questions and she caught on immediately.  She soaks things up so quickly.
  • Sophie still has an amazing memory and is always asking us if we "remember when..." and usually we don't remember until she tells us about it and she's always right.
  • Sophie isn't a huge fan of kindergarten.  She keeps asking when she will be off track.  But I think she doesn't like it because she isn't challenged at all, and especially because they never paint of do art projects.  I recently had her tested for the ALPS program and we are trying to decide what would be a good fit for her educational objectives.
  • She is very, very creative and loves making things.  She is very crafty and artistic.  She would love to paint and make cool things all day.  She is always drawing pictures and writing stories.  She would love if I let her use glue, glitter, stickers, paint, and other embellishments very day.
  • She is a very good big sister and takes good care of Luke.  Lately I have to remind her to stop picking him up all the time.  She likes dragging him around like a doll, but he wants to walk on his own.  It's interesting to see Luke relationship differences between Sophie and Aspen.  He is definitely more relaxed around Sophie and doesn't try to beat her up the way he does with Aspen.
  • Sophie is still very sensitive and thoughtful.  She always draws cards and pictures for everyone.  I am so proud of her for the way she things of other people first.  Lately she has wanted to buy presents for other people, so I have been taking her to the store to pick out birthday presents for Jamie and other people.
  • Sophie is very meticulous and slow.  I spend each morning reminding her she needs to hurry so she's not late for school.  She's definitely hard to get moving and a home body, but she always has fun once she gets going.
  • Every night when I check on Sophie before I go to bed, she is hugging her "guy" in her sleep.  It's so cute.
  • She is really friendly and has no problems making new friends.  If we go anywhere, the park, Arctic Circle, etc, she comes away with new friends.  She always wants to invite everyone she knows over for some sort of party or girl's club.
  • Sophie loves watching tv and would be perfectly content if I let her all day.  But she only gets to watch 3 PBS shows each day.  Right now she loves "Odd Squad" which is a silly show that teaches about math.
Sophie is such an amazing little girl.  She's growing up way too fast, but it's fun to watch her become more and more capable and independent.  We love our baby girl so much.
