On Luke's birthday we had the extend family over for cake and ice cream. I made my very first fondant cake for his party. I think it turned out pretty well. I had a hard time deciding what to make on his cake, but decided to go with a lion for my little boy.
We also had a low key party because his birthday is so close to Christmas we didn't think he needed a million presents. We gave him a snowsuit and coat. Grandma Sugar gave him a toy that shoots balls and plays circus music. And Grandma Karla gave him an outfit and book.
Here are some fun things about my little man:
- Luke is definitely getting to be more busy. He can crawl around and loves going up and down the stairs. He knows exactly which cupboards don't have baby locks and will dump them out a million times a day.
- Luke cruises around on the furniture, but hasn't taken a single step on his own. I didn't think that Luke would be walking for at least a few more months because he never even did the finger walking. But by 13 months he took off all on his own and has been fearless,
- Luke's sleeping was getting unbearable, so we finally decided to be firm with him and let him cry it out (after trying a few milder methods). But I think all those other things we tried actually paid off because the first time he cried for about 2 mins and went to sleep on his own. He has been doing so much better ever since.
- Luke loves getting outside and going for walks. Unfortunately with the winter being so cold and snowy, we don't get out as often as he would like.
- Luke is the sweetest guy. He can seriously get away with anything because he's so sweet and gives me the most angelic smiles. That little boy has me wrapped around his chubby little finger.
- He's a snuggler. I love that he loves me to hold and cuddle him. He's definitely a mama's boy, but he's not so attached that he won't go play and have fun or interact with other people. I think he's the perfect mix of needing me and gaining some independence.
- Luke has a ton of nicknames: Lukey, Louie, Lewis, Lukey-Lou, etc.
We love our little Lukey. He's the most mellow and happy kid. He's always smiling and a ton of fun. We couldn't imagine our lives without him. Happy Birthday Little Man!
