Halloween

Having kids makes holidays so much fun!  This year we decorated way too early for Halloween.  But that kept us in the mood for a long time and we did lots of things to celebrate the season.  I was excited to make all our costumes this year.  Sophie changed her mind about what she wanted to be about 10 times a day.  But after picking out her fabric at the store, she finally settled on a cheetah.  I thought Aspen should be the Energizer Bunny because it fits her personality--she just "keeps going, and going, and going...".  So I was a battery to go with Aspen's costume, and Isaac was Tarzan to go with Sophie.  Isaac insisted that I make him a muscle shirt to go with his costume.  So I was pretty proud of myself for sewing everything myself without using real patterns (especially since I haven't really made clothes before).

The Saturday before Halloween we had a family party at our house.  All the local aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents came.  We played a few games with the kids (although they are still too young to really get it).  The only thing that would have made the party more fun was to have the 4.75 (Tressa's tummy baby) be able to come too.

The people from "Rear Window"
Lacey and James were skunks, Avery was a fly, and Justin was the farm/Barry
My parents were jail people, Kevin was a peasant, and Jamie was a giraffe
Barry and Justin-Barry.  Justin kept standing by people and faking them out that he was the real Barry

We also went to our ward Halloween party.  Sophie won the best make-up/face paint award.  Isaac was in charge of coming up with a game, so I made a "cake walk" (with prizes instead of cake).  I think it was the best game there (although the competition was pathetic).  The kids really seemed to enjoy going around in circles to the music.

Sophie also had a Halloween party at preschool.  She said they played some game with a pumpkin and ate donuts.  So even though I'm not sure what they did, she was excited when she got home.  She has also been obsessed with a Curious George Halloween movie on Netflix.  She wanted to watch it multiple times a day.  It is about a scarecrow named "No-Noggin" who kicks peoples hats off.  She would talk about No-Noggin all the time and draw pictures of him too.

We also carved Jack-o-Lanterns as a family a few nights before Halloween.  The girls had a blast.  Sophie drew faces on the pumpkins, and Aspen loved scooping out the guts (and trying to eat it).

And then we went Trick-or-Treating Halloween night.  Sophie had a meltdown at the first house.  I had no idea what was wrong because she had been so excited for weeks and asked if it was Halloween yet almost every morning.  Then she explained that she wanted to be with Austin who she saw trick-or-treating a few houses down.  So we ran to catch up with his family and asked to tag along.  Sophie and Austin were so adorable.  They literally ran from house to house buzzing with excitement.  After most houses they would run up to their parents and say, "Look how much candy I have!".  They actually went a lot longer than I thought they would, but both crashed at the same time.  Suddenly they were walking and dragging their bags.  We asked Sophie if she was ready to go home and she said, "yes, but it's a long way home".  So she willingly went home, ate a few pieces of candy, and collapsed into bed.  It was the best Halloween yet.
