Over the Labor Day weekend Isaac went up to the farm to do some upgrades. While Isaac and I were at the farm this Memorial Day we talked about how the farm could be fixed up a lot nice for not too much money. So Isaac proposed some of his ideas to his parents. He was really excited and optimistic about it, but after lots of resistance from his family he let it drop. But then we went up again with the cousins and his passion was re-ignited.

The farm was really dirty, and unsanitary. There are always dead bugs and mouse droppings everywhere when we show up. I never used to care before having kids, but it isn't a safe environment for the children. With kids crawling on the ground and eating anything in sight, I didn't want them to get sick from being up there. So partially in order to help our family be able to go to the farm more often, Isaac decided to take action himself. He talked to Granny and she wanted to fix up the farm many years ago, but due to her husband's illness they were never able to. She encouraged Isaac to go ahead, even though a lot of the family was still against it.

So over Labor Day he went up there for about 4 days and worked like a madman. He worked 14-16 hour days texturing the ceiling, patching holes, removing carpet, painting, painting, and painting. On Friday night I talked to him and he was overwhelmed and knew he wouldn't get everything done. None of his family members were willing to help him, and Layne dropped out on his way to the farm when his truck started having problems. So my parents graciously drove all the way up there to "save" Isaac. They made a huge difference and helped him reach his goals. They helped hang lights, curtain rods, pictures, etc. while Isaac finished painting.

I haven't actually seen his upgrades in person, but the pictures are pretty incredible. There is still a lot to do, but hopefully some of his other family members will see his work and help out next time. Next summer he is hoping to finish painting the upstairs and refinish the floors.
