Cabin

Over the 24th of July weekend, our little family went to the cabin for a few days.  We had a lot of fun together and celebrating Sophie's birthday.

Every time we have gone to my cabin this summer we have seen moose sitting right outside by the creek.  This time there were two moose there almost the entire time.  We had to be really careful every time we left to make sure we didn't spook them.  But the girls really liked standing on the balcony and looking out the windows at the moose.

We also went for quite a few hikes as a family.  We hiked around Silver Lake-which we have to do every time we go to the cabin.  There are plaques around Silver Lake with descriptions of wildlife.  Sophie because obsessed with the names of flowers.  She would ask what everything was and would point out flowers like: monkshood, Richardson's geraniums, Shooting Stars, and Indian Paintbrush.  It was really funny to hear such a little girl using such big words.  But she is crazy smart like that and knows lots of dinosaurs too.

But we also hiked two new hikes.  One day we drove up Guardsman Way to hike to Blood's Lake.  This was a really nice hike and Sophie walked most of the way herself.
Another day we hiked to Willow Lake.  This is a hike across the street from Solitude Ski Resort.  It was also a really nice hike.  But Isaac and I were both tired from carrying the girls in the packs for so long.  They are getting really heavy to carry for more than about a mile.

We also drove over Guardsman Way to Jordanelle Reservoir to play in the water one afternoon.  Unfortunately the beaches at the reservoir weren't very nice.  They were really rocky and not great for children.  Sophie had fun playing in the water and digging in the rocks, but Aspen was a handful.  We had to watch her constantly to keep her from eating the sand/rocks/mud.  We ended up leaving earlier than we anticipated because Aspen was being too difficult (although she seemed to have a great time).  So we drove to Park City to go out to dinner before heading back to the cabin.
