We left on a Thursday afternoon and got the the farm late. We quickly at a dinner of frozen pizza and let the kids play outside for a while.
On Friday we drove to Bear World. It was about a 2 hour drive, but we did a few fun things along the way.
Bear World is near Rexburg, Idaho. It's a little park where you can drive your car through a bunch of bears and other animals. I was worried that there would only be a couple bears, but was pleasantly surprised to see how many they had. Lots of bears were walking along the road and right next to the car. And at times a big double-decker bus would drive around and people could feed the bears.
We also saw a white moose, regular moose, deer, mountain goats, etc. The kids really loved seeing all the animals.
There was also a petting zoo where you could pet things like pigs and goats, but they also had deer that would let you pet them. That was pretty cool.
Bear World also had a few carnival-type amusement park rides. The kids really enjoyed going on those.
We decided to stop by Rexburg and buy a pie on our way out. We got a sour cream blueberry (which sounds gross) that was delicious.
On the way home we stopped at Heise Hot Springs. We were only there for 30-45 mins before an afternoon thunderstorm came through and they kicked everyone out of the pool. But it was a cool hot spring with 3 different pools. The biggest one has a water slide that looked fun. It was chilly on our trip this time so we didn't try it, but we will have to go back another time.
We also roasted marshmallows and made smores one night. Luke got very sticky.
On Saturday we went for a hike. The kids kept stopping every 5 steps and it was driving me crazy. But eventually we were able to make it about 1.5 miles up the trail before turning around.
That evening we drove to Afton for pizza dinner and the rodeo. It turned out to be a "ranch rodeo" which is completely different from a regular rodeo. The events are all things that a rancher/farmer does in their daily life. It is also a team sport. They had a few events involving loading and unloading horses and cows from a trailer. A few rounding up and roping calves. But my favorite event was the wild cow milking. They had a bunch of beef cows (not dairy cows) that a team of 3 had to milk. One cowboy on a horse lassos the head of the cow and tries to get it to stop. Another team member pulls on the tail to get it to stop, which usually resulted in them being pulled around the arena like they were water-skiing. And the third member has to reach under the moving cow to obtain a milk in a cup. It was hilarious to watch. The rodeo was very interesting, but a lot more boring than a regular rodeo. Having a more interesting announcer and clown would go a long way to make it more fun.
On Sunday we went to church. We came home and relaxed around the farm and cooked a yummy Dutch oven dinner. The girls made flower crowns.
On Monday we went to the exercise park for a while. Then we went to the swings by the pool. After lunch we drove home. We were hoping that Luke would fall asleep on the drive, but he was awake the entire time. And he screamed for 1-2 hours of the drive. It was awful.
In August while I'm on a girl's trip Isaac is thinking of taking the kids to the farm again. I wish him luck on the drive.
