Aspen wanted donuts for her birthday breakfast. Then we had her friend party that morning. She gave me a list of kids she wanted to invite from her preschool and the neighborhood. We invited around 12 girls, and I figured that I bunch of them wouldn't be able to make it, but almost all of them came.
This year she had an "Adopt a Unicorn" party. Each girl got a headband with a unicorn horn and a unicorn necklace. Then they got to choose a small stuffed animal to adopt. The girls made collars and homes for their new unicorns. It was actually a really fun and fairly easy party. I didn't know if it would take 5 minutes or an hour to do the crafts/activities I had planned, so I was a little worried. But all the unicorn stuff took about 1 hour (of a 2 hour party).
Then the kids played outside for 20 minutes or so. Then we did cupcakes and presents and filled the time really well. The girls had a little dance party the last few minutes while we waited for their parents to pick them up.
That evening Aspen wanted pizza for dinner. So we invited my family over for her family party. Barry, Karla, and Hannah were all in Europe, so we just did a family party with the Gardiner side.
- I am so impressed with Aspen. She was really such a difficult baby/toddler. I would talk to my mom and friends constantly about being so frustrated and unsure of what to do with her. But Aspen has come such a long way and is now the easiest child in our family. She is really happy and helpful. She can still through a fit if she wants, but doesn't do it very often. Aspen and I have a very special relationship now and I have so much more patience with her. When she gets upset she always comes right to me and I know exactly how to calm her down. Isaac still doesn't have success with her when she's upset, but I feel like I have come a huge way with her and really enjoy our relationship.
- Aspen is so excited for kindergarten (even though she won't be able to eat lunch at school). And I'm still glad she will be home in the mornings with me and Luke.
- Aspen is such a big girl now. She plays great with Sophie and the neighborhood kids. She used to get upset that she wouldn't be invited to friend's houses like Sophie, but I have let her go enough times that the other moms can't even tell she's still fairly young. She plays so well with the older kids.
- Aspen has a huge determined attitude at times. You can see her face and attitude change when she gets competitive. Then she will go all out and become fierce. But most of the time she's fairly lazy and doesn't want to put too much effort into things.
- She has a great imagination and loves to play pretend. Of my kids, she can play the best by herself for long periods of time.
- She's also such a good helper with Luke. They play really well together most of the time. And she can get him out of his crib (Sophie still can't). So sometimes if I put him in his room to take a nap, Luke will start yelling "Aspen come get me. I'm awake".
- Aspen and Sophie took tumbling a few months ago. Aspen really loved tumbling and I need to find them a new place to go. This week Aspen will be going to Tumbling Camp and next week she's going to Princess Dance Camp.
I love Aspen so much. She's become such a beautiful little girl. She has the cutest smile that makes her eyes twinkle. I'm so glad she's a part of our family and I have loved watching her blossom over the last year. I can't wait to see what kindergarten holds for her.
