Sophie is 17 Months

I know I say this all the time, but I can't believe how big my little girl is getting.  Sophie seems so much older than she is.  Most of the time she plays better with 2 and 3 year olds than kids her own age.  This is partly because 1) she is really pretty big for her age (she has always been in the >90% for height) and 2) she has quite a bit of hair.  But I also think she is pretty advanced for her age (I know I am bragging, but at her 15 month doctor's appointment she had already met all her 18 month milestones).

Sophie is our wild roller coaster baby.  She loves anything that is fast, spinning, being thrown, etc.  She would love to be twirled and tossed into the air all day.  She loves doing flips with daddy (and it almost gives grandma a heart attack every time).  She loves getting out and exploring and gets upset if we have to stay home all day long.

She is a pretty good eater.  I don't know what her favorite food would be, maybe candy, but she eats most things really well.

She has been sleeping much better through the night.  We went through a few weeks where she was having night-terrors and waking up wanting her binkie every 30 minutes to an hour.  It was rough.  But she has been doing much better lately, and if only she would learn to keep her blankets on throughout the whole night it would be perfect.

Sophie can say lots of words.  Some of them are really clear and understandable, but others are still tricky to interpret.  She can say: ball, book, tv, milk, banana, cheese, egg, apple, nose, mouth, teeth, eye, eyebrow, baby, block, clock, duck, turtle, tree, star, house, home, foot, feet, sock, shoe, no, oh no, hair etc.  I know I am forgetting a lot of the things she can say, but that's some of it.  She also knows more animal sounds and other sounds like car and airplane.

Sophie loves looking at herself.  She might be a little vain because she loves looking at pictures or videos of herself.  And she will smile really well for the camera if she can see herself in the window, so now I take most of my pictures of her with my cell phone.

Sophie can point to her facial features and say what they are called.  She only knows belly button on her body, but she is learning more.  The other day when I was getting ready to leave, Sophie got out my mascara (which she plays with all the time, but has never been able to open before) and decided to put it on.  She definitely pays attention to everything we do and can mimic us really well.

Sophie loves shoes and will put on anyone's shoes if they are lying around.

And this is the crazy, impressive one:  Sophie knows the alphabet.  She doesn't have the ABC song memorized.  She can actually recognize almost all her capital letters.  The only ones she doesn't know are G, J, K, and W.  Some of them are still too hard for her to say.  But if you point to any capital letter she can tell you what it is!  I think that is pretty impressive for a kid who isn't even 1 1/2 yet.

Sophie is so adventurous and energetic, but at the same time she is so sweet and cute.  She still give me lots of cuddles, hugs, and kisses.  She runs around like crazy and wears me out every day, but I love being with her so much.  She is my whole world.
