My poor baby Sophie has been sick for the last week. Last Monday night she threw up her dinner. Sophie has never been a very spit-uppy or vomitous baby, so I knew something was wrong. She seemed to have a slight fever, so I gave her some Tylenol before bed. But on Tuesday morning she ate her breakfast and seemed fine most of the day. But after her afternoon nap, she was extremely cuddly and lethargic. It was really cute that she was snuggling with me so much, but it was obvious she didn't feel great. She then started throwing up again Tuesday night. On Wednesday she refused to eat or drink, and if I got anything down she would throw it up within an hour. The same thing happened Thursday. She couldn't keep anything down, and I started getting worried that she was getting dehydrated. Isaac and I started trying to give her a small squirt of fluids every 5-10 minutes, but after a while she was refusing that as well. I called the doctor to find out how long I should wait before bringing her into the clinic. I didn't want to be one of those moms who freaks out every time their kid gets sick and rushes them to the doctor just for them to say, "Yep, your kid has a cold/flu and you are just going to have to wait it out". The nurse told me that if she didn't have a wet diaper for more than 8 hours I would have to take her to the ER to get an IV. Friday morning I woke up and checked Sophie's diaper. She hadn't peed all night, and she hadn't pooped since Monday. Sophie was incredibly cuddly and obviously had no energy. She also woke up with her right eye covered in pussy stuff. We tried to force her to drink something again, and she completely refused. So Isaac and I decided she needed to go the the ER.
Once there they decided that earlier in the week she got a GI bug that gave her the flu. That caused her to be throwing up and have a fever. Then she got a cold that affected her upper respiratory track because she had a runny nose and cough. Then she ended up having ear infections in both ears and pink eye in both eyes. Because her little body was so busy fighting off all these other infections, they think her immune system was so weak that she then got Thrush on top of all that. I felt so bad for my poor baby. I knew she was sick, but not that sick. I had no idea she had ear infections because through all of this, she had been so good and happy. She was still smiling and laughing. She was only a little fussier than usual. She was sleeping fine at night. Basically the only signs she was sick were that she was really lethargic and cuddly. She didn't want to play with any of her toys, and would cry whenever I set her down. And the fact that she stopped eating and drinking altogether.
Anyway, now Sophie is being pumped full of all sorts of medications. On Sunday she ate solid foods for the first time in almost a week. She has slowly been eating and drinking a little more. And she is finally starting to get some of her energy back. I still think it will be a while before she is completely better, but I am so glad my itty bitty baby is feeling better. I felt so bad that I didn't know she was that sick, and now I am even more paranoid about taking her out in public because I am convinced she picked up her sicknesses from everyone she was exposed. But I am just so grateful for antibiotics and modern medicine that helped my baby get better faster than she would have on her own.

Oh Marcy, how sad! Ben got sick a couple weeks ago too, with an ear infection then a stomach bug. You're right, it makes you want to keep them at home indefinitely! I'm glad she's on the road to recovery! We'll be thinking about you guys!
