The other day I was thinking about how Sophie and I are always together. I have only left her with someone other than Isaac twice since she was born. Once was when Isaac's sister got married and my little sister watched her just outside in the waiting room. The other time was when we were in Utah and my mom watched her while Isaac and I went out to dinner. Both times I was gone less than 1 hour. Isaac has babysat her quite a few times while I go visiting teaching or to Relief Society activities, but I have never been away from her for more than 2-3 hours in her whole life. That's kind-of crazy. I admit that I have a hard time being away from her and worry whenever I have to go anywhere. But I am so glad that I have been able to spend this time with her and that Isaac and I worked out a way where I could stay home and not have to go back to work. I am so lucky to have been able to experience everything she learns on a daily basis. I'm so blessed to have this little girl in our family.
I haven't been very good at taking pictures of Sophie lately, so there aren't very many this post. (A few are from Match Day when we found out we were coming back to Utah for residency. She makes some funny faces.) But here are some of the things she has done lately:
- She hasn't had an official doctor's appointment since 6 months, but I have weighed her at home. She has ranged anywhere from 19 lbs 6 oz to 21 lbs 2 oz. So either my scale isn't very accurate, or my baby fluctuates a lot based on eating and pooping.
- Sophie is a rock star baby. Isaac usually feeds her dinner and started singing made-up rock songs to her. She would start wiggling and head-banging. It was really cute and funny.
- Sophie has 6 teeth: 3 on top, 3 on bottom. But the ones on the top and bottom are on opposite sides so it looks a little crooked. Her middle teeth on the top have a really big gap between them. Hopefully they will be pushed together as more come in, otherwise she will be the only baby in the world to get braces on her baby teeth. ;) Just kidding.
- Sophie still can't crawl. She looks like she is getting closer, but doesn't really seem to make much progress. She is getting more frustrated each day by her lack of mobility to move forward. I am sure she will be a much happier child once she can destroy anything she can get her hands on.
- She has started mimicking things we are doing. She can clap her hands, bang on the ground, or do "crazy baby" head motions by copying Isaac and me.
- I have tried putting her hair in little elastics, but she wiggles so much that it is very difficult. I have only done it twice because she doesn't like it much, but her hair is getting in her eyes now and I will probably have to start doing it more often.
- Sophie is still terribly at napping. She doesn't want to miss anything going on. She doesn't nap for very long periods of time, but she is getting better about being set down.
- She is still a good eater, but now she thinks she is a big girl and wants to feed herself. She could eat puffs all day and is really good about getting them in her mouth. But that makes her think she should control the spoon for her baby food as well. Now she has to have her own spoon that she uses as a sword while we are trying to feed her. It is more difficult, but it keeps her from rubbing the food all over her face and hair. And everyone knows how I feel about messes.
- Sophie is afraid of aluminum foil and grass. She freaks out and starts crying every time I use aluminum foil. It is sad that she gets so upset, but it is really funny that she is so traumatized by foil.
