German Fest

Milwaukee is famous for it's festivals in the summer. Almost every weekend has a cultural festival of some sort. Last week was German Fest. Since Isaac served his mission in Germany I thought this would be a fun festival to check out. After work on day we drove down to the festival grounds. (We didn't know where the grounds were, so we just drove around and parked, then we walked around until we found the grounds.)

I thought Isaac would have a fun time showing me food and things from his mission. But he just kept saying, "what do you want to eat?" My response would be, "I don't know what anything is, what do you think I would like?" Then he would say, "what do you want to eat?". We had the same conversation a million times, it was really frustrating. Finally I convinced Isaac to pick some food for us to try. It was fine, but I think that Germans and Milwaukee people have a lot in common--they don't have very flavorful food because they are more concerned about the quality of the beer.

The festival reminded me of an amusement park without the rides. There were tons of people, but nothing to do. There were huge lines for food and beer, but there really wasn't much else going on at the festival. We listened to a few bands play German music and walked around some touristy shops, but we didn't end up staying very long. Unfortunately Isaac didn't even get to talk to anyone else in German. Overall the festival was a bit of a disappointment, and we are not very anxious to visit any other ones. We will try going to the State Fair in a couple weeks and see if that is any better.

I took some pictures of Isaac with some lederhosen. Isn't he such a cute German? :)

You totally should have bought those lederhosen! Think of all the places Isaac could wear them. But where is the picture of you and a dirndl?
