Farm/Cabin Hunting

Recently my dad has been talking about selling his share of the Brighton cabin.  We all have really enjoyed the cabin, but there are long term issues with having a shared property.  Since Rick passed away and his kids have had a share of the cabin, it has become more apparent what will happen in time as the ownership moves to the grandkids--who really don't know each other or have the same goals for ownership.

And the future of the Lloyd farm is looking bleak as well.  They don't openly discuss things very well, but we hypothesize that the majority of the family will want to sell when Granny dies.  So this has lead Isaac to consider buying his own cabin.

He really loves the Star Valley area, so he contacted a realtor to show us some properties up there.  We drove up to the farm for a weekend and spent most of one day looking at places.  There was one that bordering the farm on the south end.  But upstairs of that property was really nice, but the downstairs was dated and had a weird layout.

Then we saw a handful of others that weren't appealing.  One was filthy and owned by a cat lady.  There was fur everywhere and it was nasty.  We also went to one owned by a hippie painters lady.  She didn't leave for the showing, so we wandered around as she painted while burning incense.

The very last property we saw was in Smoot.  It was a gorgeous cabin that came fully furnished.  We all loved the cabin, and even worried that it was "too nice".  But ultimately we decided to pass on it because it was expensive, and the yard was completely barren and would take a lot of time and work.

While at the farm the kids raided the apple tree.  I swear they didn't actually eat any of the food we prepared because they ate so many tiny, green apples throughout the day.

We also hiked to Periodic Springs (and it was actually periodic this time).

And we drove to some late that had a really, really long dirt road for a picnic lunch.

But it did provide an opportunity for Isaac to sneak in one more farm trip this year.  I guess that's ok because I don't know how much longer he will really have to go up there in the future.
