Trip to San Diego: Beach

Isaac had a medical conference to attend in San Diego, so we decided to head out a little early and take a family vacation with him.  I was worried about traveling with two kids.  Sophie is usually pretty good at walking around, but ever since Aspen was born she seems to get jealous that Aspen gets to ride in the stroller and has thrown some tantrums.  We had been thinking about buying a double stroller, but still weren't sure about it.  So a few days before we went to Kid to Kid to check out their used strollers.  They only had one double stroller.  It was really gross.  It looked like a kid puked on it and was sticky with crumbs everywhere.  But it was cheap, so we bought it.  I brought it home and scrubbed it with Lysol in the freezing backyard.  Afterward it looked practically brand new.  It turned out to be the best investment we made on the trip!

Sophie was so excited to go on an airplane.  She would invite all our family members to come on the airplane with her.  Our actual flight left around 8:00am, so we had to get to the airport early.  Sophie wasn't as thrilled with the actual plane ride as she imagined.  She was bored before the plane even took off.  Thankfully it was a short flight and we made it to San Diego without any major problems.  But Isaac and I both said that we wouldn't want to go on a flight any longer than that with kids so young.
We rented a car for the first few days and went to the beach first thing.  Sophie absolutely loved the beach.  It was still fairly chilly outside, so we didn't put our swimming suits on.  By the time we were finished at the beach, Sophie was completely soaked and sandy.  Sophie kept asking if she could take her pants off because they were all wet.  Isaac thought that was inappropriate (I didn't think it would be much different that swimming suit bottoms), but we left them on because it was still fairly chilly outside.
We found lots of sea shells and splashed in the water.  Sophie really wanted her bucket and shovel we packed for her, but it was still buried in the luggage, so we promised to go back to the beach again.
Aspen was also an angel at the beach.  She is normally really fussy, but she just relaxed in the front pack watching everything that was going on around her.

It was really cute to see how much the girls liked the beach.  They were both just so sweet and Sophie was so excited and happy.  I love being able to experience things with my kids for the first time and watch them learn and grow.
The first two nights we stayed at a Best Western with just one large room.  We thought the girls would both crash after a long, busy day.  But that night was terrible.  Sophie and Aspen kept waking each other up all night long.  Once we finally got the kids to bed (around 8:30pm), Isaac and I just had to sit quietly in the dark until we went to bed because we didn't want to wake up the girls.
