Aspen is 6 Months Old

I have never been a baby-hungry person.  I love my babies, but think they are even more fun as they get older.  Aspen is getting to a much funner stage.  This month she has really blossomed and is so much more fun to play with.

  • Aspen sits up really well.  She is completely solid and only tips over if she is reaching for a toy that is out-of-reach.  She is really flexible and can bend in half and sit back up again.  She just doesn't know how to stop sitting.  So if she gets tired of sitting, she just fusses until we lay her down again.
  • Aspen really loves toys.  Sophie never seemed very interested in toys, but Aspen wants everything.  She is little miss grabby hands.  She already tries to steal things that Sophie is playing with.  She also ravenously puts everything in her mouth.  It seems like she is always starving or teething by the way she tries to devour everything, but she's not.
  • Aspen is getting a little better about eating her solid foods.  She actually opens her mouth for the spoon sometimes now.  She has only tried green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, and bananas with her rice cereal.  She has shown no preference for favorites.
  • After working with her to improve her sleep habits, she now will sleep one 6-7 hour stretch at night.  Unfortunately she goes to bed at about 8:00pm, so that doesn't feel like a very long time, but at least I am not feeding 2+ times a night.  Now instead of feeding her, we can usually go stick her binkie in to make it that 6 hours.  She usually wakes up before 7:00am.  I wish we could get her to sleep in another 30+ mins, but we'll have to work on that.
  • Aspen loves having me blow raspberries on her tummy.  She laughs every time.  But otherwise it takes quite a bit of work to get a good laugh out of her.
  • She loves staring at people and watches everything they are doing.  But she usually won't look at the person holding her.

  • She loves to be held, but not cuddled.  She thinks the hair at the base of my skull is a great hand-hold.  I disagree.
  • Aspen "talks" all the time.  She is really loud.  Isaac's mom and grandma claim that he was the loudest baby ever.  I think Aspen inherited some of that loudness.  She has a fairly deep voice and coos all the time.
  • I have always known I have a terrible singing voice, but every time I sing to Aspen she laughs at me.  Then she tries to grab my mouth until I can't sing anymore.  There's nothing like being rejected by a baby. ;)
  • Sophie loves hugging (i.e. head-locking) Aspen all the time.
Just over the last few weeks it seems like Aspen has really grown up a lot.  She is such a sweet and beautiful little girl.  She is becoming so much more content and interested in her surroundings.  Sophie and Aspen are already playing together better and I can tell they are going to be best friends.
