Aspen is 3 Months

As usual, I am behind schedule.  But I want to catch up on Aspen's growth and progress...

In October Aspen turned 3 months old.  It is amazing how fast time flies when the baby is out of the belly.  Three months of pregnancy seems to last FOREVER.  But the newborn stage seems to go so much faster.

  • Aspen was a very, very sleepy baby the first 1-2 months of life.  She was so easy.  I thought I lucked out and got a mellow child--but I was wrong.  Aspen started being awake a lot more during her third month.  She would only sleep in my arms after intense bouncing to get her to fall asleep.  I was still swaddling her at night, and the only way she could be set down was if her arms were securely strapped down.  So I spent 2-3 hours each afternoon (while Sophie was napping) sitting on the couch holding my sleeping baby.  At first it wasn't bad because I could read a book, take a nap, watch tv, etc.  But after a while it is nice to have some time to get things done while both girls are sleeping.

  • Aspen still wakes up to feed 2-3 times a night.  I keep waiting for her to not need to eat so much.
  • Aspen still will not take a binkie.  Bummer.  It took Sophie 4 months to figure out how to use a binkie, so we are still hopeful.
  • Aspen still seems to be a little ornery when she is awake.  She doesn't know what to do with herself.  I think she is bored.  She often seems more mentally aware and frustrated that her little body can't do the things she wants to do.
  • She is super cute and adorable and has started smiling more.  She also laughs occasionally, although it takes quite a bit of work to get a laugh out of her.  Her laugh is really funny-just one deep "Ha".
Sophie is still loving having a baby sister.  She gets really concerned whenever Aspen cries.  She wakes up in the morning and runs to Aspen and says "dood morning angel dirl" because that's what I say to Aspen every morning.  Sophie doesn't ask to hold Aspen as often anymore, but that's probably a good thing because Aspen usually looks really concerned whenever Sophie gets too close.  We love our little Aspen so much and are so glad she is part of our family.
