Sprecher Brewery

The afternoon after my family arrived in Milwaukee, we went for a short visit out to see Lake Michigan. My family was really impressed with how big the lake is. The weather was fairly warm that day, so we were able to play a little Frisbee on the beach. The beach also had a little playground for kiddies and so we decided to have a pull-up contest. It turned out that Isaac was the only one in our group who could even do a single pull-up (he could do more than 1). He was pleased with himself, but completely disgusted with the rest of us.

After visiting Lake Michigan, we went on a tour at the Sprecher Brewery. Since none of us drink beer, we thought this would be the perfect tour because we could expose them to the drinking capitol of the world, but drink soda ourselves. The day we went on the tour was St. Patrick's Day. In Utah this holiday really isn't very popular. As a kid the only reason we looked forward to St. Patrick's Day was because we could pinch people if they weren't wearing green. But St. Patrick's Day is a much larger holiday in Milwaukee. Lots of people take the day off from work and go to the bars to start drinking first thing in the morning and continue drinking all day and night. So we thought it would be a great exposure for the family to see what like is like in Milwaukee.

On the tour we learned the Sprecher started making beer, but transitioned to making root beer as well. Their root beer now sells better than all their other beers and sodas combined. At the end of the tour we were able to taste all 7-8 flavors of their sodas. I love the pictures from this portion of the tour because our family looks drunk in many of the pictures.

Just as we were about leave the brewery, a band full of bagpipe players walked in and started blasting their music. The music was so loud I had to yell just to hear myself talk. But all in all it was a fun time.

So cool! We've always wanted to do that but never have. Thanks for the inspiration!
