Christmas was great this year. Isaac and I wanted to have a simpler, more meaningful, gift exchange this year. We each wanted to make something for the girls. Then get them each one toy, shirt, and necessity.
Isaac spent waaaay too long making a covered wagon for Aspen. He spent hours and hours in my parent's wood shop working on it. He made Sophie a rocking horse when she was Aspen's age, and wanted to make something meaningful for Aspen too. He thought the covered wagon would be easier and faster to make, but it was just as difficult. But the finished product turned out great!
I made the girls each a wooden stick horse, and sewed them leather cowgirl chaps, vest, and bought them a cowgirl hat and boots. And I made them a teepee to go along with Isaac's wagon.
Santa brought Sophie and Aspen an Ana and Elsa doll from Frozen. And a snow sled and winter boots.
Then we went over to Grandma Sugar's house for breakfast and more gifts. My parents gave the girls a pack of multicolored flashlights, which were a huge success. They also got a cool fort building kit with plastic tubes that fit into connector balls. We made an igloo and they spent a lot of the morning playing with their flashlights in there.
Then we went over to Grandma Karla's house in the afternoon. We got there earlier than everyone else, so it was quiet for a while. The girls were able to play outside in the snow for a while. Then everyone else arrived and the chaos began. But they got great gifts from the Lloyd's as well. Grandma Karla made Sophie and Aspen each an apron and chef's hat. They also got some cute pots and pans, cooking utensils, and play food.
It was a very busy day, but we enjoyed being able to see the excitement on Sophie and Aspen's faces as they opened and played with all their presents. Having kids makes the holidays so much more fun. We love our girls and are so thankful for the gift of our Savior at Christmas time.
