Sophie Update

Sophie is now 22 months old.  Only 2 more months until I have a two year old.  I know I say this every time, but I can't believe how fast the time has gone.  It is going to be really weird having a newborn again because Sophie is such a big girl.  Here are some fun things about Sophie over the last few months:

  • Sophie is a great napper.  Lately I have had a hard time getting her to wake up from her naps.  I will go into her room and tell her it's time to get up and she will say "No" and roll over and ignore me.  I am a little worried about what this will mean when she is a teenager.
  •  Sophie absolutely loves to swing.  She would swing for hours a day if we let her (and sometimes she does).  I have never seen a kid swing as much as this girl, she just refuses to get off and runs to any swing she sees.
  • Sophie also loves throwing rocks in rivers, streams, canals, or any water.  She can also do this for hours.  I don't know what she finds so fascinating about it, but she loves it.
  •  Sophie is adorable.  I think she is the most beautiful girl in the world.  But she has the most amazing personality too.  She is really smart, adventurous, funny, sweet, and cute.  We love our little girl.
  • Sophie is talking a ton these days.  She is saying lots of three and four word sentences.  She is still hard to understand some of the time, but actually communicates really well.  She is really into possession and likes to know if something is Dada's, Mama's, Sophie's, etc.
  •  Sophie learned to roll her tongue.
  •  Sophie has been sleeping in a big girl bed for a few months now.  We thought we should transition her early before the baby comes.  I skipped the toddler bed and went straight to the twin bed.  We originally started with just the mattress on the floor so she could get in and out easily and in case she fell out she would only fall about 8 inches.  She slept like that for about 3 weeks without any problems, so we but the whole bed together.  The second night she fell off the bed, so now she has a railing.  She gets in and out of bed using a little stool because she is still a little short to do it herself.  But she transitioned to the bed really well and we didn't have any significant problems.  She only got out of bed a couple times in the middle of the night a few times at the very beginning, but hasn't done that for months.
  •  Sophie hates riding in shopping carts.  It is always a battle whenever we go anywhere to get her to sit in them.  Once we found a little butterfly net for her to play with so she wouldn't try to climb out.
  • I think Sophie is brilliant.  She knows all of her upper and lower case ABC's.  She calls the letter W "book" because she can't say it yet.  But she is completely consistent with her term for it.  She is starting to sing the ABC song.  She gets A through P correct, but then always goes back to H and enters a never ending loop from H to P.  It is funny.
  • Sophie can count to 10 and recognize the numbers.  We are learning to count objects and she actually seems to understand the concept of counting although she isn't perfect at it yet.
  • Sophie knows her colors really well.  She knows black, white, brown, red, green, blue, yellow, orange, purple, and pink.  For the most part she understands different shades of colors too.  Sometimes she gets hot pink and red confused.
Sophie definitely keeps me on my toes and can wear me out everyday, but I love spending all my time with her.  She is so sweet and kind.  I love watching her take care of her stuffed animals and baby doll.  I think she is going to be the best big sister.  She has far more energy than I know what to do with a lot, but we try to have fun going places and learning new things.  Sophie loves her Dada and is always excited when he comes home.  I love seeing the two of them play together.  We are so blessed to be Sophie's parents and our whole lives revolve around that little girl.
