Pregnancy Update

I have gone to the doctor another two times since the last time I posted and everything looks great. My cervix is long and closed with no signs of opening. I am now 23.5 weeks along--only 1/2 a week until viability. Of course we don't want our baby girl to be born that soon, but it is a huge milestone for us to reach considering we never made it this far with Peter and Jane.

Our little Sophie is one active baby. She enjoys kicking her mommy all the time, but I don't mind. She is still too small to cause me any pain, so it is just fun to feel her moving around inside me. But sometimes she is a naughty girl and kicks my cervix. (That isn't okay because I am worried about her causing it to open.) Unfortunately she does what she wants and there isn't anything I can do to stop her.

I have also been having a lot of Braxton-Hicks contractions for the last few weeks. I keep asking people if that is "normal" and no one seems to notice them but me. My doctor doesn't think they are a problem, so I have been trying to ignore them (i.e.: not freak out) as much as possible.

It has been a lot of fun to see our little girl on ultrasounds every other week. At my 21 week visit she looked like she was sucking her thumb at one point.

I can't even explain how much of a relief it is to go to those appointments and see that everything is going well. At my 23 week appointment they measured a few of Sophie's parts to see if she was growing appropriately. Everything was right on scale except her femur. Her legs are measuring two weeks ahead of schedule at 25 weeks. I'm not sure how accurate those measurements are at this point, but it looks like she is going to be a tall girl just like her mama.

I have also finished making Sophie's baby blanket/quilt for her crib. I wouldn't have been able to do it without the coaching from my wonderful friend, Lucy, and my mother-in-law for getting me the sewing machine for Christmas. The blanket isn't perfect, but considering it is my first one and that I am probably the only person who would notice the imperfections, I think it turned out very nicely. I am also planning to make a matching crib skirt and drapes for Sophie's room. I'll post those pictures whenever I get around to doing those projects.

Wow! Great quilt! I'm impressed! Don't worry about her kicks causing you pain later in the pregnancy. It may be uncomfortable, but it's such a cool experience that you won't mind one bit!

Hey Marcy,
Your quilt looks awesome! I don't think anyone would guess that it's your first. I can't wait to see little Sophie. I'm glad everything's looking good.

Super cute! I just have to say get all that you can done before Sophie comes, because you won't have energy for a while to sit there and sew again.

WOW!!! You said you weren't crafty! That quilt is awesome! Great job! I love the materials you used!

I'm so happy that little Sophie is doing well! And don't worry about the Braxton Hicks contractions. I did have those all the time when I was pregnant with Emmaline. The only thing I did different with the other kids was I drank more water. Try that and see if it helps.
