Our New Door

The people we bought our house from did a lot of things to remodel and refinish our house. But when we moved in there were some unfinished doors with all the fixings (hinges, knobs, stain, etc.) stashed in the basement. Over the Thanksgiving break we decided to swap out our door to the upstairs with one of the fancier, unfinished ones. We had to borrow some tools from our friends so we could drill the doorknob hole. Then we began staining the door downstairs in the basement. We thought about doing it outside, but it was cold, so we did it downstairs. Big mistake. The smell from the stain permeated through the entire house. I had a little cold at that time, so my throat was already sore, and breathing the fumes made my nose hurt as well. That night at around 2:00am, I woke up unable to breathe. I made Isaac get up with me, drag the door to the garage, and open all the windows in the house to air it out. Then we went back to bed. It was absolutely freezing. We had at least 5 blankets on the bed, but were still cold. After about an hour, Isaac said he couldn't sleep, so we got up again and closed all the windows. From then on Isaac worked on the door in the garage. After lots of hard work the door was complete. It looks great! Isaac did such a good job, and the stain even matches the wood tone very well. Here are some pictures of the final product.

Hi my name is Marcy and I post like 50 posts at once! You crazy girl. Just kidding it's nice catching up on your life. I'm glad you get to come home for Christmas, hopefully we can get together! That's a way cool door by the way, but doesn't look very safe!

Hey thanks for updating your blog. I was getting tired of reading about the zoo. You know that I just live through the two of you and your fun exciting lives. The door looks awesome, and I would not recommend ever staining anything indoors. I did also try that once.

How are things? Marcy, I so need to call you one of these days.

Have a great Christmas holiday. Take care
