Thanksgiving

This year Isaac and I were able to spend Thanksgiving with a few of our really good friends. We missed being able to spend time with our families, but our friends were a great substitute. I also cooked my very first turkey. I spent a lot of time the week before looking for good turkey recipes online. I asked friends and co-workers the best way to cook a turkey. And I finally decided to brine the turkey overnight in salt and flavored water. Then I stuffed the inside of the bird with oranges, lemons, and all sorts of herbs. And you know what....it still tasted like plain, old, dry, Thanksgiving turkey. I am convinced there is nothing you can do to make a turkey more appetizing. On the plus side, I didn't kill anyone. After reading about turkeys online, I learned all sorts of ways that you can get people sick by thawing your turkey wrong, cooking it wrong, etc. So I was worried I would give everyone food poisoning. And no one mentioned being sick after eating my turkey (at least not that was confessed to me).

We ate Thanksgiving dinner upstairs at our house because we don't have enough room on the main level. It is a little boring up there, so to spice it up I made a bunch of paper decorations to hang from the ceiling. Isaac thought they looked dumb, but after all that work I had to hang them up anyway. And they made dinner interesting because occasionally one would fall off the ceiling and hit one of the guests. Oops.

But in the end we had a really good time celebrating Thanksgiving, and we all have so much to be thankful for.

Good to know that turkeys taste the same no matter what you do to it! I haven't been brave enough to do one myself yet but I'll remember to keep it simple when I do! Happy Thanksgiving!
