Snowshoeing Along the Menomonee River Parkway
Last winter Isaac and I bought some snowshoes, but there was never enough snow in Wisconsin for us to use them. A few weeks ago we got a decent snow storm out here and we were finally able to use our snowshoes. We went to the Menomonee River Parkway, which is only a few miles from our house, to go snowshoeing. The trail was already packed down, so we could have walked it without snowshoes, but it was fun anyway.
The snow had some really unique characteristics that Isaac and I had never seen before. There were ice rings around the trunks of the trees about 12 inches above the snow level. The snow also had a thin layer of ice that was covered with more snow. When we would walk off the main trail, the snow would crack and sink in about 6 inches where we broke through the ice. Once Isaac was walking a little off the trail and into a small gully (but he didn't know it was a gully), the ice layer broke and he dropped about 1.5 feet. It was crazy to just see him drop like that. Below are some additional pictures of us snowshoeing. It was really cold.

It looks very pretty out there. I have never been snowshoeing, but Addy did in girl scouts last week and said it was a lot of fun, so I guess I will have to try it somtime. It was really good talking to you. talk to you soon
